MM!PP! Singles no. 59

It’s Friday, that means it’s time for a mini episode. There’s no theme for our mini episodes (or cassette singles). Mike and Julia play just 1 song each. A song they heard at the grocery store, a song that’s stuck in their head, or a song they can’t stop playing.

This week’s Singles gets a little heated with the news about The Supreme Court leak, so songs do get topical. It’s important to have these conversations and take action. We recommend donating to an abortion clinic in states at risk of losing all reproductive rights for their citizens. National Network of Abortion Funds is a great start.

s2ep2: 90's Ska w. Matt Vest of On The Upbeat Pod

We are #blessed to have Matt Vest from ON THE UPBEAT Ska Podcast on our show this week. Of course we had to mix the ultimate 90’s ska playlist for your ears. We play everything from heavy hitters like Reel Big Fish to smaller fish like Mealticket. All these bands left a lasting impression on the ska scene. As ska kids growing up this was definitely a fun trip down memory lane.

Be sure to listen to ON THE UPBEAT weekly on Spotify, Apple Pod, Stitcher or wherever you get our podcasts.

Season 2 also includes all new Singlesodes episodes. In our minis we play whatever we want. It’s typically a song that we can’t get out of our brains, a song we heard in the elevator or in a commercial. Just fun stuffs!

s2ep1: We're Calling it a Comeback"

ummmm...helllooooo! it's us! your trusty mixtape specialists Mike and Julia. We're kicking off a brand new batch of episodes for your ears to love.

Since we're back we decided to dedicate an entire show to Artist Comebacks (good or bad).

ep 67: The HoliChristmaSode

There are too many Christmas songs to play in just one month, but we try.

Coming up with Christmas title puns is no joke y’all. We hope this one makes sense.

This week we have our last episode of 2021. Next year we transition to a different recording format.

We wanted to end this year on a high note and thought that there is nothing more joyfully annoying than Christmas songs! Listen along as we play through some classics and new tunes that we hope will catch on.

Have a wonderful holiday season and we’ll see you next year!

MM!PP! Singles no. 55

ep 66: a 1985 Comeback

Summer break is finally over and MM!PP! is back with a brand new show.

Host Julia is celebrating a birthday this week so why not go back to the year she was born and make a mixtape of 1985 bangers to celebrate. This episode is jam packed with 80's hits and dance jams.

Of course what MM!PP! show wouldn't be complete without a lil Championship E.R. Talk!

New Shows will be back in full force soon. Enjoy!

Ep 65: I Want to Go to There

It’s great that things are opening up again! Now that we’re allowed to leave our homes it’s time to plan outings and lunches and brunches! In this week’s episode hosts Mike and Julia play songs about cities and places to get them in the traveling mood.

ep 64: Divalicious

DIVA!

Basically Julia can’t stop listening to Celine Dion so we decided to expand and go with a whole episode on Divas. Who doesn’t love a diva? they sing, the act, they have empires! Mimi, Patti, Aretha, Kelly, Cher…we have them all in this week’s episode.

MM!PP! Singles No. 49

Every other week Mike and Julia each play a song that they can’t get out of their head. They either heard it at the grocery store, on the radio, or in a commercial. Regardless of where they heard the song, it’s now stuck in their heads and they hope to get it stuck in yours too.

Welcome of the Singles-Minisode!

OOPS! and by the way this should have been posted a week ago, but due to some tech issues you're hearing it now. Ignore the really out of date convo :)

Ep 63: A Compilation of Conversations about Compilations w/ David Defeo

WE HAVE A GUEST! AN HONEST TO GOODNESS REAL LIFE GUEST!

Friend of the show David Defeo of Low Speech joins us to discuss the compilation albums that made us.

For around $3.99 compilations acted as a gateway in to new bands and genres. They were a small price to pay for 20+ songs and a good time.

From Asian Man Records to Matador Records we cover all our favorites form the 90s and 2000s and even share some newer labels keeping the tradition alive.
